First things first and most importantly; NO MATTER WHAT HIGH QUALITY A HIGH SPEED WIRE BRUSH MAY BE, ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHILE USING THIS TYPE OF HIGH SPEED BIT!!!! I’m fact, you really should be wearing safety glasses at all times with any speed of spinning metal tools. These wire brushes hold up pretty much as well as the name brand stuff, but with the flat wheel I think the numerous negative reviews are reflective of folks using them at a speed well in excess of the speed one should be maintaining with ANY flat high speed wire wheel type brush. If your RPM speed goes above 10,000 with this type of bit, you need to remember that the outward force on the wires has no bend direction to mitigate the possible release of its grip in the clamping of the little center hub. The cone shape and pencil tip versions are spinning the wires outward from a down facing start position. So, they will bend outward at an angle to the clamping hub thus creating a decent amount of grip that stops the wire from flying out of the hub, especially when force is put on the brush wires helping them to work themselves loose. On the flat wire brush, those wires are already pointing in the direction that they want to release and when you add the centrifugal force generated by the speed to the pulling and snagging on them that happens when your grinding away at some rusty metal, those wires are going to let go at some point. If you increase the speed well above the 10,000 RPM threshold, they will come flying out like little darts and will be sticking out of your shirt, pants, and very often your skin if you are not wearing long sleeves. That is why I emphatically suggest eye protection ANY time you even turn the tool on with one of these bits installed. I have personally pulled a wire stuck right into one of my guys eyes. Luckily it was at the side edge and not a directly centered hit.Another attribute of these flat wire bits that sets them different than the common Dremel name brand flat brushes is they are 1” diameter and not the 3/4” size of the Dremel brand flat wires. It may not seem like much, but that extra 1/4 of an inch of wire metal causes an added amount of force pulling on the wire to help cause it to release from the hub so the speed should be reduced for that fact alone. I use the flat wire at about 8,000 RPM and they work well and last pretty much as long as the name brand versions. You can buy true industrial versions that have an actual “through wire” construction where the wire is not only clamped at the center, but the wire itself goes all the way through a conical center hub that is laser welded and can spin at ridiculous speeds without have wires flying out so quickly. But your going to spend about $60-$80 wholesale for EACH little brush bit of the flat version. So, using these bits at the proper speed (and maybe a little above if your using them on wood) you should get some respectable durability out of them. I put them through their paces and beat on them improperly to test all my theory and was very satisfied that what I had assumed about the negative comments was pretty accurate. Take it for what it’s worth, it’s not a big expensive item and you may think I am nuts to give such a long winded review. But these are pretty essential little tools and without someone going through the finite detail, it’s hard to feel like you found the right product. These are good. Just have to use them correctly.I was cautiously optimistic when I purchased these buffing wheels. The quantity for the price seems questionable. I am restoring a Vintage 1938 Ford Pickup and need wire buffing wheels to get into nooks and crannies to remove 80 year old crud. I am using a mototool at about half speed. These wire wheels are standing up well to a lot of pressure and sharp corners. Have had very little wire shedding. The cone wheels do not splay out at high RPM like some I have used. All in all very satisfied with quality and price. I would compare them to OEM Dremel. Obviously wear safety glasses when using any wire tool.don't last long, but works great in small places that you needed to cleanBought these to brush off paint from metal. Set them in place and wires few off within seconds. Wire hairs went everywhere. Good news, there's alot so your project eventually will get done.Kinda expected at this price but they fall a part really fast. Getting tiny wires stuck all over you is not really worth it.For the price, I have no complains. Used them to clean some metal parts at home; yeah they wont last you forever, but what will?Worth the moneyI am using these ti clean up inside corner welds. They work well without getting distorted and the bristles seem to stay intact.
